Michael Blast — Retro Electric Cruisers

Michael Blast emblem

Founded in 2016 in San Diego as a vintage motorcycle parts supplier. When the parts business wasn't enough, they built their first electric bike in a garage — fusing retro motorcycle aesthetics with modern electric drivetrains. Every model since has carried that same DNA: hand-welded steel frames, springer forks, balloon tires, and café-racer silhouettes hiding a 500W motor inside.

“Ride something different, fun and adventurous.”

— Michael Blast

Michael Blast was created to offer something different — electric bikes that blend retro motorcycle culture with modern electric mobility. Founded in 2016 in San Diego, the company started as a vintage motorcycle parts supplier before building their first eBike in a garage, fusing classic motorcycle aesthetics with cutting-edge electric technology.

The company's mission is simple: create distinctive, head-turning electric bikes that combine vintage style with reliable performance. Each model draws from a specific era of motorcycle history — the Greaser channels 1950s café racers, the Outsider echoes chopper culture, and the Vacay reimagines the classic beach cruiser with a springer fork and low-step frame.

Every Michael Blast bike is built around hand-welded steel frames with intentional details: balloon tires, springer forks, leather grips, whitewall sidewalls, and vintage tank badges. The electric drivetrain is deliberately hidden inside the frame so the retro silhouette stays clean.

We carry the full four-model lineup at our Calgary showroom and stock replacement parts, batteries, and accessories for every model. Walk in and test ride any of them — these are bikes you need to sit on to understand.

Hand-welded steel frames

Each frame is welded by hand, not stamped. The weight adds stability; the craftsmanship adds character.

Vintage motorcycle DNA

Springer forks, balloon tires, leather grips, café-racer tanks. Every detail traces back to mid-century motorcycle culture.

Hidden electric drivetrain

500W hub or mid-drive motor, removable battery, key-locked. The tech is there — you just can't see it from 10 feet away.

Multiple color options

Most models come in 3–4 colors — matte black, cream, military green, burnt orange. Pick the one that matches your personality.

What's inside every Michael Blast

Craftsmanship details

Hand-welded steel frame

Each frame is TIG-welded by hand, not mass-stamped. The steel adds weight and stability; the welds are clean enough to leave unpainted on some models.

Springer front fork

The signature Michael Blast detail. Classic motorcycle-style springer suspension on most models — purely aesthetic on the Ponyboy, fully functional on Greaser and Outsider.

500W rear hub motor

Brushless geared hub motor in the rear wheel. Pedal assist (5 levels) and thumb throttle. Quiet, virtually maintenance-free, and torquey from a stop.

Removable battery pack

Key-locked lithium battery integrated into the frame. Pull it out to charge indoors — no need to park the bike next to an outlet. 500–624 Wh depending on model.

Balloon tires & whitewalls

Fat, low-pressure tires that absorb Calgary's pothole-heavy roads. Whitewall sidewalls on most models complete the vintage motorcycle look.

Vintage finishing details

Leather grips, chrome accents, retro tank badges, stitched saddles. Every touchpoint reinforces the mid-century motorcycle character.

“People stop me on the Bow River pathway every single ride. They want to know what it is, where I got it, and whether it's actually electric. It's a conversation starter on two wheels.”— Michael Blast Greaser owner, Calgary

Looks like a vintage moto. Rides like a bike.

The Greaser turns heads on the Bow River pathway like nothing else. Picked the matte black with leather grips. People stop me at lights to ask what it is. 500W is enough for the bridges, range gets me to Kensington and back twice. Tested the Outsider 5.0 too but the cafe-racer geo on the Greaser won me over.

Vacay is the right name.

Springer fork, low step-through, 500W mid-drive. I'm 5'2 and finally have an eBike that doesn't feel like a tractor. Took it on the C-Train rack to Eau Claire, rode the river all afternoon. Eight months in, zero issues.

Ponyboy Scrambler — best price/personality.

On sale for $1299 from $2000. Felt like a steal when I bought it; still feels like one 4 months later. Retro scrambler styling, 4 colour options, real range. Calgary-tough so far — I commute through Fish Creek.

Battery key fiddly.

Outsider 5.0 arrived shipped to Airdrie, set up in 20 minutes. Beautiful bike, balloon tires soak up the cracked pavement on 8th Street. The battery key lock is fiddly — takes a second to line up. Otherwise excellent. eBC support answered my questions on the phone twice.

Theft target, but worth it.

Outsider attracts attention which is both the joy and the worry. Bought a heavy chain lock from eBC the same day. Living in the Beltline, I haul it inside every night, but the ride is unlike any commuter I've owned. Looks like a 60s flat-tracker, rides like a Class 2.

Bought one for me and one for my partner.

Two Vacays. We do the 9th Ave path most evenings. eBC discounted the second one and set both up the same day. They throw in a free service after the first 200 km. Did mine in February — they remembered me by name.
